Are you lucky? Or do you wish you were? What is luck anyway? And what is luck anyway?
I was thinking about luck today, and this little bit of wisdom popped into my head.
POP
Luck = Preparation + Opportunity + Perseverance.
I believe that what most people call luck is simply a matter of doing what we can to prepare ourselves for the kind of events that we want to happen in our lives.
Then seeking out opportunities and keeping our eyes open for unexpected opportunities that may happen at any moment.
Finally, once an opportunity manifests, putting all of our energy into taking advantage of it to move towards our goals, accepting the challenges and hardships that often come with opportunity, and keeping at it, i.e. persevering, until the desired result, or at least optimum possible result is achieved.
If that sounds like work, it certainly is. But it gets easier with practice, and things always look easier from the outside looking in. To paraphrase Thomas Jefferson, Luck doesn't just happen, it's created."
